SOUTHINGTON, CT – On Thursday, May 16, 2024, local and state community leaders visited The Summit at Plantsville to celebrate National Skilled Nursing Care Week as well as recognize the veterans who reside within the skilled nursing center with a Wall of Honor ceremony.

Southington Town Manager Mark Sciota alongside Town Council Chair Paul Chaplinsky presented two proclamations to the center, one proclaiming the week of May 12 – May 18 as National Skilled Nursing Care Week and celebrating The Summit at Plantsville and the other recognizing and honoring the veterans at the center.

National Skilled Nursing Care Week pays tribute to the dedication and commitment of all healthcare workers across the skilled nursing industry and celebrates the residents who reside in the centers.

The Meriden Antique Veterans Honor Guard conducted a ceremonial flag folding to honor the veterans currently residing there, the veterans who are employees, and those who have passed away.

Students from John F. Kennedy Middle School in Plantsville also made personalized thank you cards for each veteran who was honored to thank them for their service.

The Dining Department on the morning of Thursday, May 16, also made a special veteran’s breakfast to celebrate the residents and staff for their years of military service. Complementary haircuts were also offered to all veterans at the center that same day if they chose to participate.
